Piano, My Passionate Pursuit

I love music. I think music is anessential part of a life. Life without music would be dull and melancholic. Also,I feel extremely pleasant when I can play a piece of music with my own hands. Ibelieve music can meditate, entertain, lift one’s mood, relieve stress andbrighten up a day.

When i chance upon someone playingpiano, be it in the public or during a musical performance, I would stopwhatever I am doing and for that few minutes, just concentrate on the gracefulmelody the pianist is playing. Way before I developed a sustained interest inpiano, as a kid, I often think playing on a piano is something that everybodywould dream to do. Don’t you admire someone who plays beautiful songs on apiano? In my opinion, playing piano is something everybody would want to learnif they are given the chance to.

I am not born in a wealthy family.Spending money on additional enrichment activities like piano lessons, danceclasses or tuition are things my parents seldom consider. I started my interestin piano when my father bought a mini Kids’ Keyboard when I was 5 years old.Back then, I only know how to play “Do Re Mi”, which is the playing of theconsecutive notes on a keyboard. Other than that, I learned to play some simplenursery rhymes like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars” and “Happy Birthday Song”. Ibegin to love playing piano, but it was something I merely dream of it, becausethere was no opportunity where I can be exposed to music and piano, so I didnot think too much of it as a child.

My elder brother, seven years older,has a fair bit of interest in piano too. Self-taught, he plays songs by entirelylistening to them with full attention. Eventually, he plays songs by ear; slowlyfiguring out the tune of the songs on the keyboard. One who thinks hard aboutplaying a good song, my elder brother finally bought himself a piano worth athousand dollars with his first salary one year ago. That was when I wassecondary four. It was a stone that killed two birds, fulfilling both me and mybrother’s wish to have a real piano and to be able to play on it.

Since there is a piano at home, Iwish to start picking up piano as a hobby. My goal was to learn a completepiece of music within a year. The steps I thought I wanted to take are to beexposed to real guidance on piano and to learn basic theory of piano such asreading the notes. In April 2011, my plan was to join the Piano Club as CCA.From there, I can learn how to read notes and be guided by pianist when playingon a piano. Besides that, I am going to look up on more tutorials on piano onthe internet to further enhance my learning of piano. I want to pick up pianoquickly and be able to play a song.

So I joined the Piano Ensemble Clubas my CCA. In the club, I do not have to pay for the lessons and I am taught bythe senior members in the club who are mostly with high grades in piano. Ilearned the reading of notes, which are also called the scores to the songs.

I started looking for ways which I canlearn piano without paying a huge price for it. Then I came across websites andvideo teaching people how to play piano! Not hesitating, I begin my self-learningon piano. It was then it became my passionate hobby and an interest I wouldlike to pursue for life.

Coming to the action I take to fulfillthis passionate pursuit of mine, having a piano is the very first step to it,and my elder brother has fulfilled this for me. The next big step is thestarting of the hands on learning. Learning a song that I really adore is veryimportant because it can sustain my interest in wanting to learn the whole song,as well as motivates and gives me the drive to learn it. I can easily spendhours in a day listening to songs played by a piano to look for a song that I reallylove and really want to learn it.

The beginning step was hard, but I knowI have to slowly take it onto hands. As I have not gone through professionallessons on piano, and reading on the theory notes online would take ages for meto understand the terms, I’d decided to watch and learn from the videos onYoutube. I searched for piano tutorials; those that are played live bypianists, but in a slower version, and started following the way they play. Ineeded to know the fingering - the way a pianist put his fingers on the keysand how they switch to play another set of keys.

I still remembered how tough it waswhen I tried my hands on the piano, trying to play my favourite song withcomplex keys. It was nerve-racking when I faced difficulties trying tocoordinate my two hands, sometimes I just feel so fed up when the timing of thehands cannot match the melody of the song. At times I feel like my brain isgoing to burst as I have to concentrate my attention on two hands, not likeplaying the simple keys of the nursery rhymes! Still, I know I have to take itslowly. At first, being so enthusiastic about learning the song, I can spend2-3 hours daily to practice it. As I am usually lazy about doing homework, I wassurprised that I was so enthusiastic about learning piano at that time. How I wishI can apply the passion I had for piano onto academic wise.

Every time, a single session withduration of 2-3 hours, I could only learn around around or less than tenseconds of the song. However, I feel a great sense of achievement as long as I learnnew keys every time, because I know eventually, no matter how long, if I learnnew keys every time, I am going to finish learning the song.

It took me 5 months, with at least 4hours of practice weekly, to fulfill my goal. Around October last year, I couldfinally play this piece of song. The title of the music is ‘Marriage D’ Amour’,originally played by Richard Clayderman. It is a piece of music I came acrosswhen I was young and my parents used to have a collection of songs played bythis pianist at home.

The five months was a superbexperience! When I realized I had finished learning the song, the degree ofsatisfaction that I had cannot be put into words. It was the hard work that I’dput in, the enthusiasm and the perseverance I had, to be determined to learn. Itwas the desire to learn to play a song that sustained my passion for piano, whichled to the achievement of my goal.

After this experience, I realize pianois not that hard to learn after all. Before I started learning piano, I thoughtit would be impossible for me to learn since I have no piano background. But it’snot. I learnt that it is very important to Plan, Take Action, and Reflect. Theoutcome of a great plan plus great action would be successful; however, a greatplan plus no action taken would mean nothing and not getting anywhere. Toreflect is to think of the whole experience and to see how one can improve it.Since I have set a goal of what I want in April 2011, I carried out the stepsas planned and I achieved it.

In conclusion, a lesson learnt fromthis whole experience generally is no matter how hard something (could be askill, topic or anything) may seem to be, as long as I set a realistic goal, planwell, and stick to the plan by taking action, I would somehow get to somewhereor eventually achieve the goal. Just last month, senior pianists of PianoEnsemble Club (SPPE) approached me and encouraged me to join their Annual PianoConcert this year, so I have the chance to play on a grand piano on the stage,representing the beginner students of SPPE and showcasing our talents to theaudience. Personally, I feel that the outcome of this passion is great. Thepursuit of this passion has made me want to bring piano into my lifepermanently and be a talent which I can develop further. My next step is topursue an official certificate of Grade One pianist by continuing to learn thebasic theory of piano in SPPE.

Get Criticisms from Mentors, Good or Bad?

Below is an interview with a Korean man, Yang Hyun Suk, who cultivates and and nurture young talented celebrities.

Concluding the interview, he said, “People say that I’m stingy with compliments but I think it’s definite that a YG trainee is talented and good. I have to play the bad guy that criticizes what they lack in the middle. Teens, however, always want to be praised in their hearts, and since I’m always only criticizing them, it hurts their feelings… If I always praise them and compliment them when they’re in their teens, they have a tendency to just settle for where they’re at. In the end, they’re going to be using what they learned during their training period for the rest of their lives as singers because there’s no time to practice once you actually debut. There’s a time and place for practicing.”

I feel that his statement matches the style of what my English teacher at Sec 4 , Mrs Lee, has been doing. No one is able to verify whether this way of teaching is right or wrong. But, as a teenager, as someone who may be taught through a way like this, thoughts begin to run in my mind. Every teen, or even the adults, like to listen to compliments. I do see it is quite true, that some people will just settle for where they're at if they get praises and compliements, even for myself. Does it really do us good and make us better if we receive criticisms from our mentors?

How's everybody? it's been very long since i last updated this blog. All along i know it's good to blog often, writing down and sharing what i've done, where i've been to, how i've enjoyed my life. But sometimes, it's hard to maintain the habit in a long term. So now i'm back, trying to find back my inspiration and blog about better things.

Recently i've just embarked on a cruise trip. i went there with school, together with my course mates. First time on cruise, and being able to go with friends, it was a splendid experience with a lot of first-time experience. We did not go on the cruise only as a passenger, but as a groups of students with the privilege to understand the back-line operation such as the operation in the kitchen. We even have sharing sessions together with the Cruise Director, F & B Manager and the Hotel Manager.

Something i would not want to miss out sharing, it is Starcruise- Superstar Virgo, and it's a 4-day-3-night journey with shore excursions to Penang and Phuket. My Cabin-mates were Amelia (my buddy in class), Ting Siu, and Sok Khing. Overall it was a nice experience on board, the meals on board were fantastic. 4 meals a day, at the Pavilion, Bella Vista and Mediterranean Buffet. Chinese food, Indian Food and Western food were all that we tried. It was simply Food at Heaven!

The best thing was, i was placed in charged of holding an iPad in my group. So i fully utilised it. haha!

Paralyzed Chinese Gymnast Sang Lan Pays Respects to Her Hero

Sang Lan, a former member of the Chinese national women's gymnastic team who suffered a severe spinal cord injury during competition at the Goodwill Games in New York in 1998, visited the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation on July 15, 2008 to pay her respects to her hero, Christopher Reeve. Peter Wilderotter, president and CEO of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, welcomed her at the Foundation.

Ten years ago on July 21st in New York, 17-year-old Sang Lan was injured while attempting a practice vault. She had a fracture-dislocation of her lower neck. This incident resulted in a paralyzing injury to her spinal cord. At that time, she could not move her legs and had no sensation from mid-chest down. Today she can move her upper body uses a wheelchair for mobility. While she was undergoing rehabilitation in New York, she received encouragement and support from Christopher Reeve, who had himself been paralyzed by a horse-riding accident and remained so until his death in 2004.

"Christopher Reeve is my hero and he continues to inspire me. His cervical facture brought him total paralysis. He could not even breathe normally, yet he provided me with inspiration and encouragement to go forward. I am grateful for his generosity and largeness of spirit," said Sang Lan.

During her visit to the Foundation, she was delighted to learn that the Foundation has created the Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) to promote the health and well being of people living with paralysis and their families. She was also happy to find that the PRC is equipped to address inquires in Chinese in real-time and maintains a self-help Web site in Chinese.

Peter Wilderotter said, "I am pleased to welcome Sang Lan to the Reeve Foundation today. I am amazed by her courage and zest for life. Like Christopher Reeve, she exemplifies living life to its fullest She inspires us all."

Sang Lan graduated from the School of Journalism and Communications of Beijing University and hosts a talk show for sina.com. She also serves as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, vice director at the China Sports Foundation and an ambassador for the Hong Kong University Spinal Cord Injury Fund. She has been active in promoting the upcoming Beijing Olympics and Paralympics among children in China.

AFter Exam LOH! Already planning how to spend my holidays; Hapa Villa, Kbox, Chalet, Overseas Trip, Sch Trip...

Today is my last paper, envy those in combined science cos they do not have to report to school after their last paper yesterday(: | ) My last examination in 2009 is finally over. I don't hope for much, just smoothly past all subject is good enough. SA2 stretched for about two weeks. Sadly i stayed focus to study only for the first week of SA2, after that i became lazy to study. Perhaps because of the Malacca Trip made me lose my focus.

Just last weekend still in the mist of SA2, my family went for a Malacca Trip on Saturday. It was a whole day trip, we reached Singapore by Sunday dawn. This trip is organised by my sis and dad's company. People in their team who worked under the same Boss were invited to go for the trip. So my family had the chance to go since my sis and dad are in the same team.

There was a "convoy", where the six cars who set out together followed one another throughout the journey. The organiser of the trip would take the lead, followed by the rest of the cars. It is definitely a very nice experience and it made me recall about the last convoy my family had with my dad's friends 6 years ago.I was fascinated by the numbers of drivers we had that day, because at least 2 people in each car knew how to drive, so they can switch drivers as and when they like. So my dad drove his car and his second driver is my bro, my sis drove her car and her second and third driver were her male and female colleagues, and sis's boyfriend drove his car with two other colleagues. The 3 other cars were other members of the team.

We set out in the morning at 8 but unfortunately met with a car jam at custom. When we almost reached Malacca the driver switched to my bro. He was so excited for the first time driving in Malaysia, furthermore in a convoy. I believe he must have enjoyed the freedom to drive as fast as 120-130km/h, unlike driving in Singapore where he shouldn't exceed 100km/h. HAha! I love the journey to and fro on the car, not sure about the two drivers. cos i have my favourite songs which i spent the night before burning into a MP3 disc until 3am plus:P.

Roads in Malacca were chaotic and small with lots of cars. While heading to the location for our seafood dinner, we met with a problem because due to communication breakdown, the convoy was separated into 3 parts because 1 car lost its way. Ohoh.. and that was my sis's car. but at last they found their way of cos. So scary, try getting lost in a foreign country, you will end up making turns but shocked to know that you are actually going round the same place. :D

So well the food we had wasn't much of great taste as most were eaten in rural parts of Malacca, yet the trip was enjoyable because we seldom have the chance to experience and taste those things in the rural Malacca. Main itineraries were roadside street shopping, central part in Malacca, family-made Kueh Bahlu, chendol, durian, visit to a countryside house, seafood dinner and lastly HOT SPRING:)

Do You Celebrate Hungry Ghost Festival?

During the seventh month on the Lunar Calendar, the Chinese believe it is the time when the gate of hell is opened to free the hungry ghost to earth in order to seek for food. The Chinese use this time to pay tributes to their dead family members and some think by offering food to the dead can ward off bad luck and bring good fortune. As a Chinese, my family also followed some traditional practices such as burning the hell notes and offering food to the dead. Every year, on the first and the last day of the seventh month, my family will burn incense papers. It is a belief that the Chinese burn incense papers on the first day in order to welcome the ghosts who are just released from the gates of hell, and the last day is to send the ghosts off from earth.

People pay their respect the dead by offering foods and burning incense paper.

Organisations under certain Buddhist and Taoist temples also collect funds from donations to hold a function where the Chinese will go to the temple to pray and do offerings.

Usually people you see at the temples are mostly aunties and uncles who are more traditional and have strong belief in paying respect to the dead. They believe by doing so it can bring their family good luck and have a smooth sailing life.

The grandeur of the functions depends on the amount of donation an organisation receives. Smaller functions are held in the temple itself while others are held by building a large tentage at the nearest field from the temple.

Preparation of food baskets should not be neglected at such functions. With the donations from the public, organisations will prepare baskets of dried packaged food and rice to allow people to buy them. Chinese believed that buying the food baskets is doing a good deed as the money collected will be donated to charities. My father used to buy the food baskets during the seventh month and i noticed some of the packaged foods were instant noodles, packets of coffee powder, canned foods, bottles of soy sauce and packets of salt and sugar. A food basket usually costs $50-$100.

It is commonly seen that during the seventh month, crowded places around a shopping centre or a MRT station will have a stage built up for the live performances for Hungry Ghost Festival-Getai. The significance of the Getai is meant for the spirits to enjoy entertainment and also for the people who are interested. Older adults like my mother, enjoys watching the Getai where the singers sing in dialect. Hokkien songs are the most popular songs sang at a Getai. The performers tend to dress themselves in very bright and glittery clothes and they will crack jokes in dialect that often bring the audiences laughing away.

Sometimes, you may notice the first row of chairs in front of the stage will be empty, and no one will sit there even when the rest of the chairs are occupied. This is because the chairs are reserved for the spirits to sit, Chinese believe whoever sits at the first row will definitely have bad luck and even worse, getting possessed by the spirits.

More traditional stage performances will be the Chinese Opera, which is more uncommon nowadays. Also known as Wayang, Chinese Opera consists of actors and actresses with very thick makeup who perform traditional stories.
I remembered when i was 1 or 2 years old, my grandfather and my late grandmother would bring me along to watch Chinese Opera during every Chinese. I would prompt a lot of questions to them, asking them about what the performers were saying in dialect. And they would patiently explain to me about the story.

There are quite a lot of superstitions that the Chinese believe. Some of them are:
-Do not swim during the seventh month (evil spirits can make you drown)
-At night, when someone calls from behind, do not turn back (it might be a spirit, if you turn back you can be possessed)
-Do not set wedding dates in this month (unlucky)
-Wear clothes of brighter colours

On the last day of the Hungry Ghost Festival, the Chinese will burn incense paper to send the spirits off from earth. There are some procedures which we follow:

Firstly, we light up the two candles.

Next, we prepare the incense papers by taking them out from the wrappers and strings and lay them out on the floor. The incense papers often consist of paper clothing, money, gold, silver passports (for the spirits to enter the gates of hell) and some foods.

We light some incense papers by the flame from the two candles in order to set fire to burn the rest of the incense papers.

The Hungry Ghost Festival lasts for a month. After which, the Hokkien stage performances and the burning of incense papers will stop, and the Chinese awaits the festival the next year.

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

If you noticed my eye today in school, there was a small white dot in the white of my left eye. It was frightening. When i shared this with my close friends, they were all shocked by the bright red dot in the eye. It just appeared when i woke up and looked into the mirror this morning, but that eye appeared to be red last night. I got rather worried about it, cos i wondered what it was and later began to develop fearful thoughts. I pondered over it, preparing myself for the worst situation.

That red dot in the white of my eye is called a Subconjunctival Hemorrhage. It appears when one of the small blood vessels in the eye bursts. The broken vessel would cause bleeding in the white of the eye, thus, forming a bright red patch or dot. And there is no experience of pain or major irritation. This is usually caused by:
- Strenuous Exercising
-Coughing/Vomiting
-Sneezing
-Touching/Widening of eye
-Choking
-Severe Hypertension
-or High Blood Pressure

A more serious one would be the one below..(A foreign patient)

This red dot will probably last for a a few weeks. I am glad it is HARMLESS. It had really gave me a fright!

Taiwan Trip

This trip consisted of my sis, her friend Shu Fan, and myself. I must say i have experienced quite a lot of things, since it was the first time i went there. We took China Airlines and landed in Taipei. For the 6 days, we only toured around Taipei City, which is already much bigger than Singapore. We stayed at Xi Men Ding-the place where taiwanese youngsters like to hang out, some what like Orchard Road to a Singaporean.

I realised Taiwan is really a food paradise. Everywhere you go, by the streets or along the shophouses, you'll see stalls selling all varieties of finger food. It would be quite impossible not to gain weight after going to taiwan. I enjoyed eating at Modern Toilet, it is a toilet-themed restaurant where the foods and drinks are served in toilet bowls ranging from those for sitting, squatting or standing.

Also able to name it as Shopping Paradise, Taiwan is a GreAt GrEaT place to shop for clothes! The NiceNice tees, knee-length dress, shorts and all kinds of fashionable clothes and accessories are found there. The price is also much more cheaper than in Singapore. $7-8 for a nice knee-length dress, $9 for a normal shoulder bag, 6 pairs of good quality and great choice of colours for socks are just $4.50. WOW! Most of all, for a person like me would not miss buying earrings. 4 for $4.50, not 3 for $5.

I often got confused by the money there, because S$1 = NT$22, so i sometimes had a bit of problem doing mental calculation. :D

Of course, we also went to explore on the hilly areas, and you will see us wearing the clothes we bought on the previous night. The transport system is also quite convenient there. Like Singapore, they have their MRT called Metro. Something i find it very interesting, everyone know that in Singapore if you do not have EZ-Link, you have to buy standard card right? Over there, since we did not have their transport card, we bought a coin which functions are similar to standard card. It looks like this:

We tapped this token at the machine to enter, and upon reaching the station, we dropped it into the machine in order to exit. This is so COOL!

In one of the days, we took Metro to a place where we then found our way up a hill to the hot spring. The weather there was rather warm, just like Singapore. So we felt so glad to have reached at the hot spring. We paid NT$40 each to enter the public hot spring. Interestingly, there were a few pools once we entered. There was the hottest pool, hot pool, not so hot pool, a bit cold pool and very cold pool. LOL! ReallyXD. I CAN'T STAND HOT POOL! Those friends with me at the spa pool at Vanessa's house would probably know, i can take 30 min just to adapt to the temp of the pool before i can soak my whole body in. I seriously prefer the a bit cold pool at the hot spring, although it isnt hot. And adding to my knowledge, initially i didnt know one cannot stay in the hot spring for more than 15min. but i dun think it matters in the cold pool.

And so, the next day was a visit to countryside, also a hill, which i thought it was as tall as Genting, judging from the time we took to travel up. We took Metro and then a public bus to the hill.

I was somehow amused by the way the bus driver drove. It made me feel unsecure, but at the same time thrilling. The way up the hill was full of sharp turns. And guess what? Almost every turns I didn’t feel the driver slowing his speed. That means, at high speed, the driver managed to turn at the sharp corners. And WOW! I was like on a roller coaster man.

Our motive there was to see the waterfall, and hopefully to have a ride on the cable car. From a village, it took us 1 hour to walk up to the peak of the hill, while taking pictures of the beautiful greenly hill. Unfortunately, lady luck wasn’t on our side, we didn’t get to ride on the cable car because it was closing soon. So we headed back to the village and had a Fish Spa! That made our legs so itchy. Before we went home, we had a very special dinner at that village. All the dishes were wild. As in the vegetables were leafs of the plants in the forest, the small prawns and fishes were caught from the rivers and the soup was boiled with wild flowers. Indeed special especially the rice was served in bamboo stick.

Back in Xi Men Ding near our hotel, we strolled along the streets and saw 2 squirrels! They were owned by an uncle who earns a living by displaying his squirrels for people to take photograph. The price was up to us to set, some people even took pictures with the squirrels without paying any cents.

Approaching the end of our trip, we did random shopping around Taipei city. Went to visit a Hello Kitty shop selling all kinds of things about Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty bottle, shoes, calculator, laptop bag, drawer, hand phone, utensils, apron and many many more. Then visited the Taipei Train Station, which looked very similar to an airport. That was where people wanted to travel to other parts of Taiwan. At night, we had our dinner at Taipei 101 building, the tallest building in the world. That meal was treated by my sister’s Taiwanese friend who owns a bridal shop.

DO YOU KNOW? Taiwan actually sells pig in a pet shop. People are allowed to own pigs as their pets and take them around with a collar and leash! Of course the pigs are mini size one, not big size one. I managed to see a few at a pet shop. SO CUTE!!!!

Next day afternoon, we departed from Taipei, feeling so unwilling. Taipei is definitely a great place to experience something different from Singapore. The essence of the Taiwanese language won’t be fascinating if you do not experience it yourself. Their culture is worth learning- very friendly, polite, and respectful. Serious, you should see how the commoners queue in front of the train door, and only to stand at the right side of the escalator to let people walk.

This is a great trip with Jie Jie, managed to catch up with her a little. Felt nice to be able to share a room with her again. I want to say

New Northpoint

The Yishun Northpoint is now renovating, most of the shops have started to open. Very impressed by the whole concept of northpoint, the first time i went there i almost got myself lost at the basement. i must say the newly renovated one will be really huge, like a shopping paradise. My likings are the Japanese themed foodcourt(SUSHIs arE cHEaP), the disc shop at basement(I CaN WATCH BOF whenEVEr I WalK PasS), SweeET TAlk(FavouRite PEarLY MIlkTea), PeT LOveR's CentrE(although i seldom visit it, the hamsters are cute), POPuLAr( I always GEt My PEns THEre ON sat). XD

You will definitely spent a wonderful time watching this Korean drama! It is really a comedy and romance drama, funny in the mean time touching.
Then pick out someone in the show who catches your attention, for example:
Kim Hyung Joong, as "Yoon Ji Hoo", one of the main lead in BOF.

In the show, you will see him as a very quiet and cool guy who doesn't really like to express his true feelings in front of other people.

He is always there for Jan Di when she is feeling down or when she and Gu Jun Pyo encounters problem on their relationship. Ji Hoo make Jan Di feel very comfortable being with him.

I have realised my mind hasn't been functioning well for the last two days. As in the way i reply to other people is totally not linked at all. Let me state some circumstances.. i find it very funny.

Happy BirthDay To ME!

I feel very fortunate because many friends gave me their wishes for my birthday. My dearest netballer friends made me felt so like the "main lead" during morning assembly, very attention seeking arh. But i really really appreciate it:) Thanks alot. and i love the necklance very much.

A warmest thank to Xiujie, my bestie for the past two years. I promise for as long as i can, i will keep what you had specially made for me. I can say it contains the wonderful memories of the two of us and our friends had together.

For my birthday celebration this year, my family and i did something rare. Instead of cutting birthday cake at home, the six of us went to eat crabs for celebration. In the end we finished two big crabs-the biggest i have ever eaten together with a few other dishes. Although that meal was costly, it was eaten without any complaints as very seldom we would have the chance as a whole family to have meal together. i must say it is worth it.

Meteor Garden:

Shan Cai,whose parents are far from wealthy, attends Ying De University, the private school established exclusively for rich students. F4 comprises of Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Xi Men, and Mei Zuo, who are the heirs to the four richest families. Their families are the founder of the school and nobody dares to cross them. One day a girl and her friend walked home together. Her friend noticed an orange colour note on the ground. To her surprise, it was a ten dollar note. Both fretted over the note, thinking what to do with it. For some minutes, the note was left on the ground with the both girls staring at it thinking what to do next. The girl decided to picked up the note first before deciding what to do. Meanwhile, they thought of some ways to settle with that note:

1. Go to the police station and give them the money
2. Leave it on the ground and walk away, pretending nothing happened
3. Throw it away
4. Use it
5. Donate it.

The girls thought the most realistic decision would be the fourth choice. Hence they headed to the nearest shopping mall and spend it on a Four Seasons Pizza worth $9.60 in Pastamania. They split the change evenly and had a wonderful lunch together, knowing about each other more.

I spent my Valentine's Day with....
FLOWERS!!!
i was at my aunt's flower shop to help out. A few years ago, i started as an assistant in folding the fabric wrapping paper and cutting cotton. Now i am able to make bouquets of flowers, but only for three stalk bouquets. Considered not bad already cause i can help to lessen their load. Together, three of my aunts were there plus me, sometimes my Yeye, my cousins and my brother. Everyone was very glad that at the end of the Valentine's Day, all flowers were sold out and we went home early.

Republic Polytechnic, Monday, February 9, 2009 - CHIJ St Nicholas’ Girls’ (St Nicks) beat Canberra Secondary 22-12 in the final match of Round One of the B Division North Zone Championship.

St Nicks played a very swift and aggressive game and for the first 10 minutes of the game, it looked like it was going to be an easy win for St Nicks. By the end of the first quarter, St Nicks were leading 7-1.

But Canberra fought back to let St Nicks know that they were no easy pushovers. However, St Nicks were able to maintain their lead at the end of every quarter.

Canberra had a slight disadvantaged with their slightly shorter players but they still managed to put up a good defensive game. The game became quite aggressive at times, with the umpires often calling fouls for obstruction and body contact.

In the final quarter, Canberra matched the two goals scored by St Nicks but it was not enough to steal the game away from St Nicks who deserved the win with their better teamwork.

Despite this loss, Canberra still advance to the next round along with St Nicks.

St Nicks will be grouped with Yio Chu Kang Secondary, North Vista Secondary, Woodgrove Secondary, Northland Secondary and Evergreen Secondary.

Canberra Secondary will face Riverside Secondary, Seng Kang Secondary, the Singapore Sports School, Marsiling Secondary nnd CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent in the other group.

Dressing Up To The NinEs...
Have you ever wondered when do you dress up to the nines? Like being in your best clothes and you would feel so beautiful and elegant in it. Different people has different number of times when she is dressed up very nicely, it usually depends on the occasion. Normal people do not wear gown to the beach, neither they will appear in a beach wear at a ball. For me, it is only once in a year i would appear in this manner. Just that one day in the year that is during Chinese New Year, i guess that had made my day.

The moment every thing was done on that day, i looked at myself in the mirror,"What The Hell! Who's this?!"

It was the sporty short chubby girl. Gosh the feeling was quite embarrassed. Especially the first time in my life walking with heels, i almost need my brother to hold me wherever i go. i had the taste of it is enough. That night when i got home, everything that had happened in the day all seemed like a dream. When the clock stroke twelve, i was in my pyjamas and headed to sleep. The next day i woke up and found myself back to the time in two days ago. Life must still carry on from there.

This year's Chinese New Year passed so quickly like a blink and it is over. Now we are approaching Valentine's Day already. Time really flies, don't you agree?

Cherish every moment you have, they are significant.

Student Council, Or NOT?
Roles of the student council are easy to accomplish, but it is hard to perfect them. There are different levels of accomplishments that one can make. Some treat their job with responsibility and diligence while some with pride and arrogance. There are Pros and Cons of being one. I suppose it will post as a great challenge for a newbie. Well, there are bound to be stresses faced, from students or jobs and duties, by teachers and in studies. It depends on you if you want to take up the challenge. Study is still very important. Think carefully and not to be remorseful of your decision.

The things that are happening to us now, are the harvest of thoughts and actions sown in the past. Today's thoughts and actions are seeds being sown for future harvest. Some things may be nerve racking, but don't concede defeat. :)

i have already peeled off the skin, now not pain anymore... but today's match i put 4 layers of cotton wool with plaster under my feet, to prevent more blister again. By the way today's match is with Ahmad Ibrahim, we won by 28:15. Their girls were quite good, but i have to praised our girls to "Good Job!" KEEP IT UP. st. Nicholas game would definitely be very tough.. jiayou.

The glaring sunshine shone on me, making my eyes twitch. The uncomfortable heat and the singing of birds woke me up. I sat up and took a closer look at the clock on the wall. I was unsure of the time, so I rubbed my eyes and looked again. Seven Twenty! I had forgotten to bring my phone back to room last night that nothing woke me up!

I reacted fast to the situation and decided to carry out my five-minute plan. It was a plan I would be doing if I know I might be late for school. This included brushing teeth, changing clothes, tying hair, packing bag, wearing shoe and OUT.

Something came across my mind before I started to change, I remember there was P.E lesson in the morning, I had to wear P.E under the uniform, when I realised that I could not find my shirt and short. Getting worried about being late, I began to feel nervous.

No matter how hard I search for my attire, I just could not find it. Therefore I made up my mind not to go to school because it was already seven twenty-five.

Thus, I watched the clock turning to seven-thirty.

"Tick Tock, Tick Tock" it stroked. I could imagine at that moment, everyone in the parade square will rise for the National Anthem and the Pledge. I thought if I will regret not going to school because for the fear to be late as name would be taken down, and also I dared not face the scolding I will be getting for being late and without P.E attire.

It was a stressful morning i had. After some time, I thought carefully of where the shirt and shorts could be placed. I went to the balcony and saw all my P.E shirts and shorts hanging by the windows there...

Even though I did not go to school, I did something which I could only do for once a year. That is, to be with my father for New Year shopping! I considered it quite a meaningful and special day. :)

Currently, time only permits me to blog for once a week, i am glad i am able to maintain this constantly. Everyday 10 rounds plus some affairs have made my departure in school to delay. End of the second week, i have quite adapted to Chemistry, Geography, Chinese, English and maybe Social studies. However not so much for Maths and Physics.
I hope my class can be decorated nicely. So much so with a duty roster, birthdates and horoscope of classmates, photographs of everyone and some corners. I guess these are the job of a class yraterceS. My Bro says "it is good to be in the committee", but i guess some might say "it is better not to be a busybody" XD I trust the first one.

It is a great change from Sec 2 to Sec 3. This first week has been so busy that it didn't allow me to sleep more than 5 hours. Subjects, new teachers and after school activities are driving me crazy! Omg, why is a day so short? Can't it be 36 or 48 hours so that i can have enough time to finish my things and rest? Maybe i only have myself to blame for being a slowcoach in finishing all those homework, i can spend the whole midnight to dawn doing just two pieces of simple homework. Luckily i still have my weekend to replenish all those energy lost in this week. I hope i can overcome and adapt quick.

Same to the year, it is not long or short. Every second we have cannot be reverse back:) So treasure the happy moments and look forward to more moments that one can get.

The movie is not bad, a theme on a love story.. But, i don't really understand why most of the people think Edward Cullen is very handsome. So how did you spend your Christmas Day?
I stayed at home all day, with three dogs: BuBu, Minnie, and Ashbie. Althought i enjoy it, three dogs at a time is really not easy to handle. Especially when they do not clique with one another, it can bring you a great headache. What i feel today was like at a Dog Care Centre where i have to look after all the dogs. My mum was there picking up dogs poos and cleaning up the urinate one after another. Then i have to keep holding on to Ashbie, to prevent her from getting close to BuBu if not BuBu will start to growl. This might be because BuBu and Ashbie are very strange to each other due to their first meeting, plus Ashbie is simply too hyper active. She kept jumping here and there, but she is very obedient, just playful,like a kid.

Minnie and Ashbie just went back with my sis and her boyfriend. I heaved.

Haven been blogging for more than a week, so sorry about that. These two weeks my internet connection have been down until today when i finally can log onto the website. i know i have many things to blog about, so i will slowly recall and bring back about how i had been for the past week k?:)

Last Tuesday, i went to Genting with only my Yeye and Papa:D My dad booked the trip for 4 days 3 nights, 2 nights in Genting and 1 night in Kuala Lumpur. This time it is so convenient, because we board the bus at Sun Plaza, just walking distance away from my house. I remember every morning when i am at Sun Plaza or the Mrt station, i would notice a double deck coach parking at the area outside Mcdonald's. That bus belongs to Konsortium, the tour agency at the 3rd floor of Sun Plaza.

Bus left Sun Plaza at 6.30am and we reached Genting at 1.30pm.

Bon Voyage To Me, i will be heading for Genting tomorrow morning. So I will miss all of you during these few days..

Anyway according to my research, the temperature in Genting is almost the same as in Singapore if i am not wrong. So i would bring my casual clothes there, then i will be seen wearing t-shirt and fbt shorts there. haha!

I will be going there only with my dad and yeye. So these 3 generations will be there enjoying the different atmosphere together. At last i have fufilled my wish to go overseas this year:D

Fountain Of Wealth at Suntec City is the world's largest fountain. It has a base area of 1683 sq metres and from this base area projects a huge 85-tonne (85,000kg) bronze frame resembling a tripod but with four legs. Water from the fountain shoots up to 30 metres high. Three times every day, you get a chance to go up real close to the fountain when it is turned off - from 9am - 11am, 2.30pm - 6pm and 7pm - 7.45pm - just so that visitors to it can partake in a ritual, which is the walk round the fountain. It is said that walking round the fountain and touching its water brings good luck to the person carrying out the ritual.

Sometimes, if we treat scolding as a reminder, it won't have a huge impact on ourselves. It might need to depend on the kind of situation, whether you would decide to treat scolding as a reminder or something you need to reflect on it seriously..

It can be stressful to receive scoldings for not performing to the certain expected standard, but do not let it droop your confidence level. There are people who perform better the moment they are being scolded, while some just cannot make themselves to perform anything good due to the distraction and not able to focus.

A scolding can also make you fluster. When that happens, there might just be one thing you need to do, listen to yourself. Instructions given by others might really make your mind split. At that moment, you should really calm yourself down and think of what you want. Listen to yourself and achieve what you want.

World's First Aids Day Concert!!

Have you heard of the First Aids Day Concert? I saw it on TV during the past few days. There famous celebrities like Stephanie Sun, Hadi Mirza, Hossan Leong, Dim Sum Dollies, and some local bands such as Electrico, Jack & Rai, Strike Force, and the three divas who came together for this event who are Alemay Fernandez, Michaela Therese and Vanessa Fernandez! woohoo!

My sis got two tickets for this concert which is held at the fort canning hill last night, so i went there with Jiaxuan. Yesterday was my Po Po's death anniversary so i went to Ye Ye house from noon until evening.

I love the Dim Sum Dollies part. They are so humorous, jus as humourous as that time when the Sec twos went to esplanade to watch Dim Sum DolliesXD.

Match With West Spring Sec!!!

Last Wednesday during the sports camp was a match with the Crescent Girls.. i can say they are tough, and had done a good job in the game.

Today is a match with West Spring Secondary. Their school is nice and very big, the sizes of the Sec ones classes are quite different from our schools'. i am surprised that their netball court is on the third floor, just beside their hall. The whole concept of the school is really nice. i saw beautiful rubbish bins painted with many colours, a few BBQ pits painted nicely which seemed like the body of some animals. And also a huge fish pond:)
Juniors match was quite ok, Coach said they have improved. Sadly, the Seniors match was interrupted by the heavy rain from just only a drizzle. I guess it should be the third quarter when I was being called onto the court, just a minute before that downpour. So what i did during the match was jogging a little on the court. Haha:D

Last Saturday got a a bloated stomach at Carousel, located at Royal Scotts Plaza It is a buffet restaurant that has foods of many different countries such as sushi, indian curry rice, chicken rice, pasta, spaghetti, cheese cakes and many flavours of cakes, they still have lobster, squid, oyster, crab, tomato or chicken cream soup, chocolate fondue, nonya kueh, ice cream, fillet, beef, many kinds of cheese... many many more! wow, it really tempted me with an unforgettable dining experience at Carousel. Renowned for its sumptuous Asian and Mediterranean buffets. It should be the place for those who look out for high standards of food. Nevertheless the price to enter this restaurant is also high, for an ordinary student like me. However some people might still think it is worth the price to have their meals in the restaurants:)

Sushi Spread!!!!!!

Last Thursday my family had a sushi spread at sun plaza's Sakae Sushi. Really ordered alot! too bad kor kor wasn't there that night, still attending his sleeping lessons in NS Camp. lol.

So i got my must-eat sushi, my favourite crabmeat and corn sushi, i have been eating that since young. My taste never change. When the menu was served, Jiejie was so generous, ordered this ordered that.. But i have no idea what was all that cos have never eaten those before. Dunno some kind of japanese soup, salad, tempayaki squid, a beef set, soft shell crab, tofu... All were delicious, just that i dislike having the raw foods. By the way, i am now learning to eat wasabi. Still trying to get use to the choking feeling in the nose when i eat wasabi:) Next time i should try the lunch buffet there, seems better than ordering one plate by one plate at $2.29 each.

The Sports Camp!!!!!!!!!

The sports camp was just over.. last night when i reached home camp after bathing i took a banana and started eating. the moment i finished eating i fell asleep on the sofa without realising. then bubu bit away the banana skin on my hand, as told by my mum.Lol:D

This year's sport camp should be better than last year, hope for an even better one next year. Apart from the training sections, we also have lessons conducted by the camp organiser and one lesson by a lecturer form republic poly, and we were allowed to go Sun Plaza to buy things on Tuesday night. Then we was at under huan hui's block to celebrate her birthday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUAN!
Time felt short during the days in the camp, there was almost a break for every intervals. During resting time, all we did was playing cards until all the players were there shouting and laughing so loudly:)
Training sections were enjoyable.
Foods served were mostly proportional and nice. Thanks to the chinese rice stall and malay noodles stall.
Had a match with Crescent Girls School on the last day of camp. Everyone had a tough fight with them. Unfortunately, our opponent was strong enough to beat us in the game. My apology for the two mistake passes. i guess i just haven understand the logics involved in playing a game.
I realise i will feel very tired in an air-con room, that's why i kept falling asleep in there. And i dunno why my body will jerk when i was sleeping in the lesson room. Once a while i would jump abit jump abit, i think Jenny understands what i am drawing at.
I like the playing of team games during the time before dinner on wednesday. We played the Tally, the first person do actions for the person behind to guess a word she is acting and this is passed until the last person in the row where she has to tell the answer to Coach. After that we played Limbo Dance, the one that everyone has to bend back to cross under the rope as the rope goes lower. Then we played 'high jump', testing the defenders' ability to jump high over the rope. Shanice and Jamie was the top jumpers.Nice jump there! Even Coach was shocked, and she clapped.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3!!!!!!!!!!!

It is super nice to watch. I just watched it yesterday with Jiaxin and Jiaxuan. From the first to the third movie, we can see similar scenes in the movies. This time round High School Musical 3, should be the best of all the three movies. Not only the main leads are graduating in the movie, they are indeed also graduating from High School Musical. This would be the last time they are filming High School Musical together, as the next movie would be filming the new badge of students in East High. Great job to the director, Kenny Ortega, for such a wonderful movie, suitable for all the young people! Cheers! :)

Friendly Match At Hougang Sec!!!!!

Today we have a friendly match at Hougang Sec, in the morning. we treated it as a training to try out our down line and strategy. Not bad, after this at least got more familiar with some things. But then my stamina drooped after two quarters, arh, then dont' have the strength to play liao(plus abit gastric). Very funny, at the starting of game i intercept a ball but i throw WRONGLY! Coach shouted"AIyo... plus one point then immediately minus one point already." haha, that was my mistake.. Perhaps i started to float the moment i caught the ball. LOL!

This time round the netball girls are very independent. Only Ms Lee accompanied us there but we went back by school bus ourselves. Coach sent us home from there. There was a hunourous bus guide on the bus. He claimed the bus is his and has a driver to drive for him. He joked with us and made everyone laugh using the mic on the bus.

Then we had a live concert on the bus. One Senior and One Junior, guess.

Then went to eat at sun plaza foodcourt. I got my Lor Mee!!

If you have the time. Take a look at the Northpoint Second building's toilet. It is clean and done very comfortably with those dark woody cubicle. I've forgotten which floor was it. In the toilet, there is a cubicle with a very small toilet bowl, meant for little children. Unless you are a children, or you don't enter that cubicle, because the bowl is really that small. Around 20cm i think.

Dun be as silly as me to enter that cubicle without knowing. I almost close the door before i realised i went into the wrong cubicle. Then i was there keeping my laughs in the toilet, looking as if i was going to burst out laughing non-stop. but i am glad i held it until i left the toilet.
I suggest that the toilet staffs there should put a notice on the cubicle door to notice others. but i bet other people won't be as blur as me. LOL!

Like i say, evening is the most beautiful period of a day because you can see the sun set.

i wish i am able to paint this scene out with my own hands...

at night, everything was moved into the shelter for fear of sudden rain, but it did not rain.

It is very nice of 2E1 people to turn up at the BBQ. Everyone ate very little there, most of them went off during evening. i guess there were much uncooked and unsuccessfully cooked foods. 2E1 is hence dispersed since that day, but memories will stay put in every one's mind huh?:)

Tips For a BBQ

Some people misunderstood something about BBQ. There are some techniques which have been observed to be very useful for barbecue beginners. Please look out that:

1. Barbecue are when foods are cooked by a way using heat, not fire.
2. It is not the correct way to cook a food during a BBQ using the fire from the charcoals by dripping butter on them.
3. The interaction of fire and the food might cause toxic to be present on the food. Hence it may be harmful to the body if foods cooked like this are consumed.
4. Fire starters are used in the way they are supposed to be. There is no need to smash the fire starters into little bits and pieces and spread them onto the charcoals. Some people think like this will be easier for the fire to burn, but on the contrary, you might cause a wastage in the fire starters.
5. Charcoal produce more heat when it is burnt until grayish white. Set up the charcoals and fire starters on the BBQ pit and burn it. Wait until the fire to be gone and white ash appear before you start cooking your food, or you might have uncooked food even if you barbecue it for very long.

Read up what Barbecue means in the dictionary in order to have a more successful barbecue next time!

Seoul Garden

It was cool eating at seoul garden!! there was me, xiujie, liping, xiaowei, and syafiqah & amalina who jus went to shop there but didn't eat..:) anyway we grabbed loads of foods, and ate lots of them. it was fun going out with good friends for dinner. we took almost all kinds of food there. the marinated chicken, beef... and coleslaw, fish balls, crab sticks, swiss roll, french fries, crackers, hot dogs, ice kachang, ice cream... etc i think many foods we took are those very cheap ones, and wouldn't be able to cover the price of the whole meal. we were so bloated after that. you know what? we spent nearly 4 hours inside the restaurant! eat and eat and eat.. surely will grow fat. I love the coleslaw and ice kachang and ice cream.. slurp! so cool that we can fry the raw food ourselvesXD

HOliday Training At Kallang!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is our first training at kallang netball centre for this holiday. I think it was enjoyable, although it was quite tough during the warm up jogging plus under scorching sun, that my skin almost became barbecued and peeled off. i find the jogging very life threatening, might suddenly feel out of breath and fainted-really, so don't push yourself too hard that you might not be able to take it. i am very grateful that my passes this time isn't as bad as before, i hope i can maintain it and do even better:)
After training was feeling so hungry so i took my packet of coco balls and eat.

yesterday was invited to go shopping at vivo city! i love the Daiso there, so many things to buy all at 2 dollars ONLY.

Everyone should try eating at the foodrepublic at the last floor, near the place where we take the monorail into Sentosa. i love the ambience there, very special and unique. It has the taste of the olden days where everything is made of wood. Although the foods there ain't very cheap, but still affordable. i ordered fish & chips, then shared a huge bowl of ice kachang with jiaxin and we ended up freezing in that antique food court. the air-con there was strong, and we stayed there for quite long, plus the ice kachang we really went stiff in the cold place. But you cannot imagine that jiaxin and I actually enjoyed the stiffness in our body-HAHA! i still remember the last time i experience this kind of cold was during my holiday in Harbin and Shenyang-China, when i was shivering despite wearing at least 4 layers of clothing:D

haha, I could only find these two photos which i look better cos the rest of them aren't nice when i am in the very thick windbreaker:P

What do you do during holidays?
My holiday is filled with netball trainings. Thrice a week. Although the trainings only take up around 1 over 14 of my hours in a week, i feel that it is a lot, actually it's not. I feel quite good that trainings are taking up my time during the holidays. Maybe just a little too tough, but still able to take it:) Because i don't like to rot at home. I want to keep on finding something to do. Going out with friends is good, but i will surely spend some money, so i dun like to go out too frequently.

Some people will want to make their holidays more enjoyable so they go overseas to experience the different weather and atmosphere. This can also help to enlighten someone who is facing pressures and difficulties, to give them the strength to solve the problem after the holiday trip.

I want to make this annual vacation a pleasant and well-organised one, then end the year of 2008 with beautiful memories and indelible experiences. And begin the year of 2009 with much anxiety and expectation! Say CHEERS to our wonderful vacation:

This is one of my meal last week. Look Healthy right? Very attractive with different kinds of colours-red, white, brown, yellow, orange, green. Consist of foods that are cooked by the methods frying, boiling, steaming. Definitely fits the healthy diet, it is appealing, cheap, nutritious, attractive, and fits the occasion. All nutrients Proteins, Fats, Carbohydrates, Vitamins and Minerals are present!

Deepavali also known as Diwali, literally means "row or garland of lights". Locally, it has been called "The Festival of Lights". It is symbolic of victory of good over evil, celebrated by most Hindus the world over. It highlights the victory of Lord Krishna, one of the deities of the Hindu pantheon, over the Demon King, Narakasura. It usually falls around late October or early November on the new moon day.

Legend
Legend has it that Narakasura, the king of demons, had tortured the common folk. After many years of hardship, the people, unable to bear the suffering, appealed to Lord Krishna who then declared war against the demon king. As he lay dying, the demon king begged for mercy from Lord Krishna and he asked that the people rejoice and be merry at the anniversary of his death as a reminder that ultimately evil will never triumph. Little clay lamps were then lighted as a sign of gratitude to Lord Krishna.

Some Hindus believe that Deepavali is celebrated to mark the return of Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana after being banished from Ayodhya by his stepmother for a period of 14 years. An important reminder is that Deepavali is not the Indian or Hindu new year. The Tamil New Year falls on either 13 or 14 April every year.

Deepavali Preparations
Preparations start weeks before with the spring cleaning of the home. New clothes are bought and women take great pains to make cakes, sweetmeats and other tidbits, the favourite being murukku. Hindus also believe that departed souls return during this time. So, favourite foods of the departed along with new clothes are placed on banana leaves before the photographs of the departed and prayers done.

Deepavali
Early in the morning, the Hindus will have the traditional oil bath. The body is rubbed and massaged from head to toe with gingelly oil that is extracted from fermented sesame seeds. When all the members have had their bath and don their new clothes, special prayers are held at the family altar. Decorative designs or rice flour paintings with intricate designs usually done by womenfolk on the floor at the entrances of homes. Hindus also make it a point to visit temples early in the morning to receive the blessings of Lord Krishna and the Goddess of Wealth. Then it is time for either visiting friends or receiving them. At night, children play with sparklers and are allowed to light clay lamps and display them along the window ledges or doorways.

KorKor's Graduation Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is my korkor's police training graduation day! woohoo! first time seeing him in his full police uniform, suave! so cool! papa, mama and me took taxi to his camp at old chua chu kang road. we felt so honoured the moment we went in cos there were men in police uniform who were standing by the corridor and corners as ushers. then i saw many people sitting at the sits, all dressed in elegant and nice clothes. but i was wearing t-shirt and shorts. soon, squad by squad, the police trainees marched into te parade square. too bad i couldn't find korkor, really alot of them and all looked similar in their uniform. I think the organiser wanted us to exercise or what, there was a few high ranked officer sitting in the car coming into the parade square, 5 to 6 of them. they came in one by one and each time we had to rise and be seated, rise and be seated, rise and be seated, for almost 6 times! then everyone was mumbling when each car came in, predicting they will have to stand up again. jiejie soon came to find us after her work.

the parade square is very very big, a few times bigger than our school's. i believe can have around 10 netball courts there.
